Are We Finally Bored of Trends?

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve genuinely gotten fed up with buying into the latest micro-trend.
Leopard print, polka dots, the latest “aesthetic” — it feels like every few weeks there’s something new we’re all supposed to be wearing.
Social media has made discovering fashion easier than ever, but I also think it’s made it really easy for us to lose touch with our own style. When we’re all being shown the same outfits, the same brands and the same trends every day, it’s no surprise that everyone can start to look a bit the same.
A few years ago, I would have bought the expensive leopard-print trousers, worn them to death for a season and then, the second I got sick of seeing them everywhere, suddenly hated the sight of them. Which is kind of mad when you think about it.
Recently though, I feel like there’s been a bit of a shift.
People seem less interested in dressing head-to-toe in one particular aesthetic and more interested in mixing things up — different brands, different eras, vintage with new, sporty with feminine.
And I’m very much here for it.
Trends will obviously always be part of fashion — and they’re fun. I don’t think we need to stop following them altogether. But maybe we’re getting a little better at taking what we actually like from them and leaving the rest.
That’s probably what I love most about vintage. You can’t really shop it with a checklist. You might go looking for one thing and end up finding a 90s Adidas jacket you never knew you needed. There’s no full collection telling you exactly how everything should be styled together.
